Education and Training & Human Services Cluster
(formerly Early Child Development & Education)

Pathway Description
This course is designed to provide students with the basic knowledge of child development. This includes: an overview of licensing standards; strategies for working with children having special needs; techniques for working with parents/families; characteristics of basic child development; principals of behavior and guidance; issues concerning health and nutrition; ethical practices; and introduction to curriculum development and lesson planning.

This program includes a laboratory school and an on-site childcare facility, which provides students with actual hands-on experiences with young children. The Child Development Center (CDC-the laboratory school) is a Three Star Facility.

Admission Requirements
Assessment testing (TABE or COMPASS)
8th grade recommended reading level and comprehension of Licensing Standards Manual Physical stamina to work directly with children for 2 hours
