Q: How much does the Fire Academy cost?
A: The Fire Academy is $3600.00 including tuition, books, clinical shirts, and supplies. The costs NOT included in this amount are: Cost of living, uniform (pants, boots, t-shirts, etc.), required vaccinations, physical from your doctor, Drug Screening test, OSBI Background Check, Motor Vehicle Report (MVR), and transportation to and from school.
Q: Is the Fire Academy a Full-Time program?
A: Yes. The Fire Academy is a Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., 16-week course. It is considered a Full-Time program.
Q: Can I take individual classes through the Fire Academy instead of taking the whole course?
A: Only if you are a paid firefighter and receive permission from Alan Sanders, Fire Training Coordinator. All others must attend the entire Fire Academy.
Q: Can I receive Financial Aid for the Fire Academy?
A: Yes. There are two types of financial aid available for the Fire Academy: The PELL grant through FAFSA or the Montgomery G.I. Bill. Please contact Janie Prior, Financial Aid Coordinator at 405-390-9591 for more information.
Q: Is the Fire Academy program offered in the evenings or part-time?
A: No. The Fire Academy is only offered as a full-time program during the day. EOC Tech does offer several Emergency Services and Fire Training during evening hours; see our website at www.eoctech.org or call 405-390-9591 for more information on our evening programs.
Q: Does the Fire Academy offer job placement when I graduate?
A: No. However; when candidates graduate, they will have over 13 certifications from basic to advanced and over 31 college credit hours transferrable to Redland’s Community College and OSU-OKC. EOC Tech’s Fire Academy graduates are then placed on a list that 21 metro area fire departments hire from on an exclusive basis. Graduates of the academy are very highly trained and are very “marketable” to any department they wish to apply at.
Q: What is the hire rate or percentage of hire after graduation of the Fire Academy?
A: The Hire Rate for the Fire Academy is currently over 50% and growing. EOC Tech has had a successful graduating class of over 20 from each academy; an academy has been held every semester since Fall 2006
