PHILOSOPHY AND GOALS

Philosophy

Our purpose is to provide a safe, loving and stimulating environment for young children. We provide a "Discovery Learning" atmosphere and strive to meet individual needs and levels of development. What this means is to provide the materials, guidance, and opportunity for youngsters to learn at an appropriate rate for his/her individual level of development. We enhance and build on children's experiences by providing a wide variety of activities and opportunities to explore the environment around them. The environment is a result of careful planning and a true understanding of child development. In our planning, staff members utilize their knowledge and center resources to design activities that fit individual and group needs of children. Teachers are trained in the Focused Portfolio process. Staff members observe children on a regular basis, identify milestones within each of the seven areas of development and plan according to these milestones. Each child is an individual; so many varied opportunities will be introduced to enhance development in physical, social emotional and intellectual areas. We respect each child and the important role played by his/her family.

Play is a child's work, and our main emphasis in the development of physical, social, emotional and intellectual areas will reflect this belief. Young children need consistency and routine for security, therefore, a general daily schedule is provided with alternating active and quiet times. The children will experience activities in areas of fine motor, gross motor, pre-reading, pre-math, science and social studies. These will be presented in group-time lessons and in individual experiences through centers and table activities.

We provide care from 6:45 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. for children between the ages of 2 and 6. We are presently licensed for 47 children. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, creed, religion, national origin, or ability. We do, however, reserve the right to balance classes with boys and girls and appropriate numbers for age groupings.

Goals

Traditionally, Career Technology education has been effective because it provides the opportunity for students to learn by doing. Therefore, the primary goals of the Child Development Center are:

  • To provide opportunities for the Child Care students to work with children as they develop skills, knowledge and attitudes.
  • To provide a caring and loving atmosphere which promotes positive growth and development of children in the areas of emotional, social, physical, and intellectual development.
  • To support the state and federal guidelines in an effort to improve the overall quality of child care in the state of Oklahoma.
